Why are Vision & Values still important?
As an expert working with Small – Medium businesses I am constantly banging the drum to encourage business owners to actually take the time to establish their Vision, Mission and Values as this forms such an important foundation to build their whole people strategy on.
Much as trends come and go, this isn’t one of them – why?
- Your Vision is where the business is heading, what do you want to be famous for in your world. If this isn’t a message shared with your team then how on earth can you move towards achieving this?
- Your mission is how you intend to get there – what is important to you in how you do business and how your customers really feel about your company?
- Your values are the standard you want to hold dear. This is something every single member of your team should understand and be held accountable to.
When I deal with the frustrations Business Owners have with their staff, it is often because their teams do not share the same drive, passion and direction but perhaps this is because they have never been told what the big picture is and how they fit into this.
Once you have a clearly defined Vision and work through to establish your values then this should cascade in every aspect of your business.
