For me, the coronavirus epidemic came at the worst time for my family, not that there would have ever been a good time!
Just two weeks before the country got put into lockdown my Grandad became very poorly after having a stroke – and I know I won’t be the only one with family members in the same position as unfortunately the world doesn’t stop for anyone. As the virus continued to spread, it became harder to be able to visit him in hospital This was very difficult as we knew he was suffering and he wanted his loved ones around him but during this time my Mum had started coughing, and therefore meant that we all were having to self-isolate at home. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful NHS Staff who are all doing amazing at giving care to our loved ones in these hard times. The nurses were very reassuring and called us every day with updates and kept us in the loop with all of the treatments and for that I want to say a huge thank you!!
As an Administrator at Quest I wasn't sure how possible it would be for me to work from home as I directly support the Consultants but we found a way to make this work. Within a few days of the announcement of the lockdown we were inundated with support calls and so this generated a large volume of work for me as to help clients get ready for furloughing we had to issue written variances to over 300 employees in a couple of days. We then had to ensure these were electronically signed and uploaded to the HR software so that they were kept for the required 5 years.
It does seem now we are in the extended period for lockdown that our clients have had the reassurance and support they need from us and so business feels like we are back to normal, whatever the new normal for us all is right now.
To help us stay connected as a team I ran our first Quest Quiz on Friday afternoon and it was great just to have some time together on video keeping each others spirits up and having some fun together. We have been creative in keeping in contact so we don't feel too isolated working at home and it seems to be working well. I will look forward to our next Friday team event to see what activity we have in store!
