Workplace & Premises

You must protect the health & safety of anyone in the workplace which includes people with disabilities and providing adequate welfare facilities for your employees.

We provide a free of charge initial assessment which will review your workplace and premises and highlight any aspects which may need attention.

Welfare Facilities

Welfare facilities mean you must have toilets and handbasins with soap and towels or hand dryer, drinking water, a place to store clothing and change and somewhere to eat meals.

Healthy Work Environment

A healthy work environment means you should have adequate ventilation, a reasonable working temperature, lighting suitable for the work being carried out, enough room and space for workstations and seating, and a clean workspace with waste containers.

Safety at Work

You must properly maintain your premises and work equipment; keep floors and traffic routes free from obstruction; have windows that can be opened and also cleaned safely; make sure that any transparent (eg glass) doors or walls are protected or made of safety material.

Disabled Access

You must ensure that workplaces meet the health, safety and welfare needs of each member of the workforce which may include people with disabilities. Several of the Regulations require things to be 'suitable' in a way which makes it clear that traffic routes, facilities and workstations which are used by people with disabilities should be suitable for them to use.

Building Regulations contain requirements which are intended to make new buildings accessible to people with limited mobility, or impaired sight or hearing. There is also a British Standard on access to buildings for people with disabilities.

Make sure you are aware of the risk assessments needed for your workplace and premises and what you or your Landlord are responsible for
